About Landon School
Landon Summer takes place on the campus of Landon School, an independent school for boys, grades 3–12. Founded in 1929, Landon's mission is to prepare talented boys for productive lives as accomplished, responsible and caring men whose actions are guided by the principles of perseverance, teamwork, honor and fair play.
Our History
Landon School was founded in 1929 by Paul Landon Banfield and his wife, Mary Lee Banfield. The school started in a converted mansion in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s embassy row. In 1934, the school moved to its new location on the Evalyn Walsh McLean Estate at the corner of Bradley Boulevard and Wilson Lane in Bethesda, MD.
Once Landon moved to its current location on Wilson Lane, the range of activities expanded considerably. In 1935, Landon inaugurated its summer day camp for boys aged 6–12. The school completed the construction of its outdoor pool in 1953. With a new pool, Landon’s camp became one of the few camps in the area to have its own swimming facility, which contributed significantly to the camps’ growing reputation and enrollment. Preschool Day Camp was added in 1991 and Girls Day Camp was added in 1995, along with many other programs in music, arts, academics, and sports.
