What to bring: Snacks, lunch, water bottle (labeled with a name), sunscreen

Prerequisite: Should know how to read music notes on the treble staff and basic rhythms like whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and their corresponding rests. Prior Handbell Ringing experience not required, but a plus!

Come join us for Landon Summer's Handbell Music Camp! We will learn handbell techniques, grow our music skills, music theory, plus how to work together as a Handbell Team! Campers may be divided into different experience levels to facilitate the best learning environment. They will play in a full ensemble and small chamber ensembles, based on experience. We will also learn fun bell trivia as our country celebrates its 250th Anniversary and how bells are used throughout the world for celebrations, The week culminates with a Family and Friends presentation to attend for the group to showcase their talent.

Meet our Staff:

Kathryn Jurado

Kathryn Jurado is a nationally recognized handbell director, clinician, and educator with over 30 years of performance experience. She serves as the Director of Handbells at Landon School where she leads students in grades 5-12 and is the Alfred Handbell Editor and Instrumental Editor for Jubilate Music Group. 

Kathryn holds a master's degree in Oboe Performance from the University of South Florida, where she founded the university's first collegiate handbell ensemble. Before moving to the DC area, she was a leader in Florida's handbell community, serving as a director of Magic of Bronze, Suncoast Bronze Ringers, and multiple church ensembles. 

She is an active clinician, educator, and conductor for Handbell Musicians of America, The Fellowship of Worship Artists, and has rung with elite bronze-level ensembles including All-Stars at National Seminar, Virtuoso, and Zenith. 

Kathryn is passionate about helping young musicians grow as confident, expressive artists.

Fun Fact: Kathryn played and/or directed Handbells in 6 different states last spring and summer and will be traveling to Scotland in August to play at the International Handbell Symposium! 

William J. Murphy

William was a musical director for several ensembles in the Central Florida region, Magic of Bronze and Grace Notes, both in the Orlando area, Community Presbyterian Church in Celebration, and Suncoast Bronze Ringers in the Tampa Bay area. He has performed with many high-level ringing choirs around the country, including Distinctly Bronze East and West, the HMA All-Star Choir, Virtuoso, Zenith, and Bayview. William is an active member with the music department at Hyde Park UMC in Tampa, singing in the choir, and with a gospel barbershop quartet. He is currently serving as the Past Chair of non-profit organization Handbell Musicians of America, Area 4, having served on the Board for almost 10 years, and previously holding the positions of Treasurer and Secretary.

Fun Fact: William enjoys cruising the high seas with Disney Cruise Line!
