Rising Grades 5 - 12
$525 per session ($430 for June 29-July 2)

What to bring: Instrument, rosin, extra set of strings, pencils, snacks, water bottle (labeled with a name), sunscreen, and lunch with drink     

Prerequisite: Completion of at least two full calendar years of string ensemble or private instruction. Students must also be proficient in sight-reading.

Now in its 30th season, this program is open to intermediate and advanced students interested in reading and performing various types of music. This camp emphasizes sight-reading skills, proper playing position, pitch and rhythm precision, tone development, music theory, and musical technique and interpretation. During the day, students will perform in full string orchestra and smaller ensembles. The week culminates with a spectacular Friday concert for family and friends to attend showcasing the group’s talent.

Meet our Staff:

Maestro Stephen Czarkowski

Stephen Czarkowski is a distinguished conductor, cellist, and educator based in Washington, D.C. As of 2022, he serves as the Music Director and Conductor of the Central Pennsylvania Symphony and Music Director of the Symphonette at Landon School. During the summer of 2025, Mr. Czarkowski was the guest conductor with SODELO (Southern Delaware Orchestra) in July Summer concerts and is the Director of Strings Camps at Landon School, as well as a conductor at the National Philharmonic Summer Strings Institute. His leadership has impressed audiences at the National Symphony Orchestra under Leonard Slatkin as part of the prestigious National Conducting Institute. He is a graduate of the Catholic University of America, where he earned a Graduate Artist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting, in addition to holding a Master's degree in Cello Performance and Conducting and a Bachelor's Degree in Cello from Mannes College, studying under the esteemed Carter Brey, Principal Cellist of the New York Philharmonic. 

Fun Fact: Mr. Czar has performed for President Biden at the Whitehouse in addition to running a 10-mile marathon at Disney World. 

Oliver Cole

Oliver Cole is a D.C. born cellist based in Tampa, Florida. Oliver is currently pursuing a master's degree in music performance from the University of South Florida. He has been a member of the Venice Symphony since 2023, a professional orchestra located in Venice, Florida led by Maestro Troy Quinn. Throughout his career, Oliver has had the opportunity to perform at prestigious music festivals across the United States and abroad. Oliver has been fortunate to study with acclaimed cellists and teachers such as Scott Kluksdahl, Susannah Chapman, Jonathan Spitz, and Stephen Czarkowski.
