At Taste Buds' Jr. Chef Week, young culinary enthusiasts in kindergarten through 6th grade embark on a flavorful journey of cooking exploration, where they develop a love for food while gaining valuable kitchen skills. Our program is thoughtfully designed for two age groups: K-2nd grade and 3rd-6th grade, ensuring that every child's unique needs and abilities are nurtured appropriately.
- Our younger chefs (K-2) begin their culinary adventure with fun, age-appropriate activities that introduce them to the exciting world of food and cooking. They'll start with basic kitchen skills, exploring different ingredients, learning about flavors, and discovering the joy of creating simple, delicious dishes.
- For our older chefs (3rd-6th), the program dives deeper into culinary techniques and food science. They'll expand their cooking skills, learn more complex recipes, and develop a greater understanding of how ingredients work together to create amazing dishes.
Throughout the week, all campers will learn essential kitchen safety and proper food handling. They'll practice age-appropriate knife skills and explore various cooking methods, from basic techniques to more advanced preparation methods. Our young chefs will also discover the art of food presentation, learning how to make their creations look as good as they taste!
As part of our program, we'll introduce basic concepts of culinary entrepreneurship, helping children understand how their passion for cooking could potentially grow into something bigger. This camp combines hands-on cooking experience with creative thinking, making it both educational and fun.
At Taste Buds' Jr. Chef Week, we believe that fostering a love for food and cooking is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Our program ensures that children can explore, learn, and grow in a supportive and enriching environment, all while having fun and creating delicious dishes. Join us on this culinary adventure and watch your child's love for food and cooking flourish!
*At the end of the week, students will leave with a Jr. Chef booklet that covers what they've learned so that they can continue practicing their skills at home—with parent permission of course!

At Taste Buds Box, we're not your average cooking program. We're cooking up a storm with a dash of passion, a sprinkle of experience, and a whole lot of heart. What sets us apart, you ask? Well, it's because we're proudly owned by a dynamic mother-daughter duo who are veterans in their respective fields!
Meet our Staff:
Chef Shavown Cox
With over 30 years of experience in nurturing and caring for kids, Chef Shavown brings a unique perspective to the world of culinary arts. From her early days as a counselor at a residential treatment center to her role as a child-life specialist in the pediatric intensive care unit, Shavown's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. It was her time in the pediatric unit that ignited her passion for preventive healthcare through food education.
Today, she's a professional chef specializing in health-supportive culinary arts, graduating with the highest honors from the Institute of Culinary Education in Pasadena, California. Shavown is not just a chef; she's a loving wife, mother to three incredible children, and a doting grandmother to five amazing kids.
Brittany Young, M.Ed.
Brittany Young, an educator with over 15 years of experience, is the other half of this dynamic duo. She's been the guiding force behind various educational organizations, students, families, and teachers. With an impressive track record working with institutions for incarcerated youth, public school districts, and independent school organizations, Brittany is no stranger to inspiring change.
