Next Level Field Hockey

Two one-week sessions 
June 24-28 and August 5-9
9 a.m.–3 p.m. (Monday–Thursday), 9 a.m.–12 p.m. (Friday)
Girls, rising 4th through rising 10th graders 
$400 per session

What to bring: Field hockey stick, shin guards, mouth guard, comfortable athletic clothing, cleats or sneakers, sunscreen (labeled with name), snacks, lunch with a drink (Monday-Thursday), water bottle/sports drink, bathing suit and towel for optional pool time, change of clothes, sneakers for indoor activities 

Players will be grouped according to skill level and age. No prior experience required.

The Next Level Field Hockey camp at Landon Summer is structured to rapidly develop and improve each player’s skills while teaching the latest techniques in a fun, positive environment. Each day will include a variety of field hockey drills in which players work on stick skills (dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and advanced moves), as well as defensive tackling, positioning, and team strategies. We will also play small-sided and full-field games to allow campers to practice the skills they have learned in a game situation. Coaches include current and former University of Maryland Division I field hockey players.

9–9:30 a.m.

10:30–11:15 a.m. 

Small games 

11:15 a.m.–12:00 p.m. 

Lunch/get ready for pool 

12:00–1:00 p.m.

1:15–1:45 p.m. 

Small-sided games 

1:45–2:45 p.m. 

Scrimmages 

2:45–3 p.m. 

Breakdown and clean up 
 

Rain Day Activities: In the event of severe inclement weather, our campers will be engaged in the following indoor activities: 

  • Technical sessions (field positions, playing styles, etc.) 

  • Field Hockey video sessions 

We will follow the weather closely to make sure that campers get back onto the field as soon as the rain stops, and it is safe to play.

Next Level Field Hockey is committed to providing girls with a professionally managed and coached field hockey experience. We offer year-round playing opportunities including clinics, summer camps and travel teams. Our coaches are all top Division I players who love the game and are focused on providing our players with a fun learning environment to further develop their individual and game skills. Director Bio: 

Welma is the Director of Next Level Field hockey which includes camps, clinics and travel teams as well as the head Varsity field hockey coach for National Cathedral School. Welma Played both tennis and field hockey at the University of Maryland where she captained both teams. Over the course of her Maryland career Welma received many honors: 

  • All American (2015, 2016) 

  • Big Ten Player of the Year (2016) 

  • Big Ten Tournament MVP (2015) 

  • 2015 BIG Ten Championship Title 

  • 2013 ACC Championship Title 

  • 2014-2016 BIG Ten Regular Season Title 

  • NCAA Final Four Appearance, 2 NCAA Elite 8 Appearances 

In addition to field hockey, Welma played varsity tennis for 4 years at Maryland and was ranked as high as number 15 in the NCAA Division 1 doubles rankings. Welma is originally from Pretoria, South Africa where she was a National team member for both tennis and Field Hockey. 

Meet our staff:

Janessa Pope

Janessa is currently the head coach at Sidwell Friends School, and she has been coaching with Next Level for several years. Janessa played at the University of Maryland where she was a team captain. During her time at Maryland Janessa won two ACC championships and a national championship.  

Lina Crowley 

Lina was a two-sport athlete at Washington and Jefferson, playing field hockey and lacrosse. Lina is currently completing her grad degree at Georgetown University where she is serving as a graduate assistant to the field hockey team. Lina is also the assistant coach at National Cathedral High School as well as coaching for Next Level. Lina is also a Next Level alumni.
