Spartans Plus expands deeper into tennis development through various tennis–specific developmental activities. Each camper will be assessed and then assigned to sections where they can further enhance their skills at the proper speed.
Rainy Day Activities:
World–class tennis programs always include classroom education. Strategy and mental acuity are best taught through conversation, blackboard visualization, and indoor testing. Part of our curriculum is to use rain days to improve our players’ tennis IQ. Our indoor activities are designed to further expand players’ skill sets.
-
The History of Tennis: Learning about the history of tennis helps to expand each player’s appreciation of the game. We may play some movies covering the origin of the game or the path to success for some tennis greats such as Serena Williams and others.
-
Indoor Activities: We have created over 50 exercises designed to develop and master motor skills, mental acuity, and focus as well as their understanding of the rules of the game.
NOTE: Depending on the amount of rain and the strength of the sun after a storm, it can take up to 1 ½ hours to get the courts safe for play.
Tennis Balls:
One of the cornerstones of the modern tennis system is the series of slow tennis balls designed to bounce lower and slower than typical regulation yellow tennis balls. The theory behind this design difference is that by tailoring the ball to the player, he/she is better able to master his/her swing resulting in longer rallies and more opportunities to hit the ball
-
Red – This is the slowest and softest ball and is comprised of foam. The main goal of a red tennis ball is to build players' confidence and skill while allowing them to focus on racquet handling, movement, coordination, and, above all, fun.
-
Orange – Players with some tennis experience use the slower speed of orange tennis balls to focus on and develop basic shot techniques.
-
Green – Significantly faster than the red and orange tennis balls, players use the green tennis balls to continue to develop technique and maximize rally time.
-
Blue – The soft property of the blue tennis balls blended with their true yellow bounce properties make them the perfect transition to the next level of play.
-
Yellow – The official standard for tennis ball performance, yellow tennis balls are used for tournament play.
Electives:
Electives are designed to be targeted and customized for each player’s needs. It gives our directors a chance to elaborate in detail on topics that are pertinent to participants’ interests and areas of weakness.
