Photography in Practice

Boys and girls, rising 8th through 12th graders
What to bring: DSLR camera with removable lens, 32GB memory card for the camera, flash drive (32GB or higher), sunscreen, water bottle, lunch with a drink, snacks (money to purchase snacks optional)
Arrival/dismissal zone: Red
This class goes beyond the basics of photography and explores the manual settings of your digital camera. We will cover framing, exposure (shutter speed and aperture), focus and basic effects while exploring unique photography locations in our area including Glen Echo, the National Zoo, Great Falls, the National Mall and more. We will also cover the basics of editing raw files in Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop.

Teacher Bio: Laura John is a graduate of the Corcoran College of Art and Design and holds a master’s degree in art education. She currently teaches Upper School media arts (digital photography, graphic design and digital art) as well as yearbook at Landon School.
Fun fact: Laura is a Bethesda native and went to Pyle Middle School.
