The Next Level Field Hockey camp at Landon Summer is structured to rapidly develop and improve each player’s skills while teaching the latest techniques in a fun, positive environment. Each day will include a variety of field hockey drills in which players work on stick skills (dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and advanced moves), as well as defensive tackling, positioning and team strategies. We will also play small-sided and full-field games to allow campers to practice the skills they have learned in a game situation. Players will have an opportunity to cool off in the pool after lunch. Coaches include current and former University of Maryland Division I field hockey players.

Coach bios:

Coach Welma is the director of the Next Level field hockey program. She was a dual-sport athlete at the University of Maryland. Over the course of her Maryland career, Welma received many honors including All-American (2015 and 2016), Big Ten Tournament MVP (2015) and Big Ten Player of the Year (2016). In addition to field hockey, Welma played varsity tennis for three years at Maryland and was a member of the South African national field hockey and tennis teams. Welma is originally from Pretoria, South Africa, where she was a three-sport athlete in high school (field hockey, tennis and track).

Coach Janessa is an alum of University of Maryland. She was a team captain of the field hockey team her senior year. Janessa is an ACC and National Champion and loves to share her knowledge and love for the game with the younger generation of players. During her time at Maryland, she was on the ACC academic honor role for 4 years straight and is a great example of a high-level student-athlete.
