Landon Summer’s Cross Country camp is designed to get kids excited about running and educate young athletes on the physiological, psychological, biomechanical, and tactical aspects of the sport. Through a mix of practical training drills, runs around Bethesda and D.C., keeping a running journal, and workshops covering topics such as nutrition and proper footwear, the camp is sure to draw more athletes into the sport of running. It will also give current cross-country runners a good plan for summer training that will set them up for success in the fall season.
Coach bio: Tom DiChiara is the head varsity cross country and track coach at Landon, where he also teaches Upper School English and Humanities. He has been a runner since he joined his middle school team in fifth grade to get in shape for basketball, and quickly fell in love with the sport. He ran collegiate cross country and track for the nationally-ranked Georgetown University Hoyas, has coached cross country and track at Landon for six years, and still looks forward to his run each day.
Fun fact: Before coming to Landon, Tom was a movie journalist with Moviefone and MTV.
