This camp offers young scientists a chance to put their observation and problem-solving skills to the test. The science behind forensic investigations is explored through hands-on laboratory activities where campers will be the ones cracking the case. Campers will follow the process from crime scene to laboratory to courtroom. Through the study of famous real-life cases, campers will understand how science impacts the legal system. Laboratory activities in fingerprinting, document analysis, tool mark analysis, blood typing, blood spatter, DNA and trace evidence will all be explored. This class is an exciting and educational way for students to see science in action!
Note: Campers learn about how forensic science relates to real-life cases. While the treatment of the material will be age-appropriate, some violent crimes will be discussed.
