Students will work on core high school writing skills, including narrative, information, and persuasive writing. Students will produce a narrative piece imitating an author’s style and/or achieving a particular effect, an analytical piece examining an author’s style, and a persuasive piece arguing a position on a current debatable issue while also acknowledging the validity of the counterargument. Individual guidance, a computer lab setting, models, journaling, sentence practice, outlining, pre-writing, guided revision and peer editing enhance the writing process as students learn about writing styles and work on their own voice. Students’ final products include paragraphs, essays and/or multimedia projects.
