Young actors will thrive in this exciting theater camp! Using the imaginative world of Disney, campers can explore their dramatic side and play different characters in a variety of settings. Each day of camp will center on a favorite Disney movie which we will explore using drama, song, movement, and art. They will learn theater skills like vocal control, pantomiming, creating characters, and theatrical design. Campers will also apply literacy skills like identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution. Finally, they will learn life skills like creative problem solving, confidence and teamwork.
During the camp day, we’ll warm up with theater games that help campers build specificity and creativity in how their bodies and voices can create characters. We’ll read the story of the day and begin exploring the setting or characters with different whole group activities. Then we’ll act out the story, using our imaginations to bring to life the problem and solution, and key storytelling moments. Often we’ll find ways to insert other favorite characters or imagine how a part of the story could be different. Campers will also be exposed to set, costume, and prop design through daily art projects. On Friday, the campers will put on a performance that we created and rehearsed together. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 pandemic precautions, family and friends are not permitted on campus to watch our performance, but a recording will be available.
Also check out Improv & Theater Games for older campers!
